Hi Google AI Studio Team,
I am reporting a critical regression regarding the recent change in how projects are stored (moving away from Google Drive to internal storage).
The Problem: All my previously created applications and prompts, which were working perfectly until a few days ago, are now completely inaccessible. When I try to open them from the “Jump back in” section or the Library, I get the following errors:
-
“Failed to initialize applet”
-
“Failed to load app”
-
“Internal fail” (when trying to interact with the chat in these projects).
Technical Details: I have verified that the source files still exist in my Google Drive (folder “AI Studio”), but they appear as “Unknown File Type” or ZIP-compressed binaries (containing metadata.json, index.tsxe, etc.). It seems the link between the AI Studio UI and the legacy Drive files has been completely broken during the migration process.
The Impact: I have lost hours of work on complex system instructions and UI configurations for several business applications (e.g., a “Purchase Management System”). There is no visible “Import” or “Repair” button in the new UI to reconnect these orphaned files.
Request:
-
Please provide a way to re-import these legacy Drive packages into the new internal storage without losing the metadata and system instructions.
-
Fix the “Failed to initialize applet” error which prevents users from even seeing their own code.
A platform for developers should prioritize backward compatibility and data integrity. Losing access to production-ready prompts due to a UI update is unacceptable.
Looking forward to a technical solution.
