I really regret contributing in the competition, I spent more than 160 hours to develop my app, and then I got nothing at all, even the video views were very few. It’s hard seeing that tremendous amount of effort gone for nothing. Not even any kind of appreciation for participants… and seeing dummy ideas win easily. It was really an awful mistake to contribute in such competition, with more than 3K submissions there is a very small chance for your effort to be recognized. Really feeling bad for my bad time investment. Spent all these hours polishing the app and thinking of ideas, then quickly in the last day made a demo video which upon it I will be judged was the most stupid thing to ever, and the second stupid thing is to even consider spending all these hours on this competition.
Even though you didn’t win maybe you can still mention your work on your LinkedIn, talk about it on your blog. I could talk hours and days about my app and I also learned a lot.
I put in in considerable amount of time too. The task is to figure out how to carry that investment on. First, nobody could take away what you have learnt.
I know it feels sour to not win. Head over to the meme topic to laugh it off.
Competitions and “startup accelerators” are just Intellectual Property theft & laundering operations, I hope you know.
Perhaps you lost in this competition but you didn’t lose the battle yet. Loosing in this competition, takes it as a fuel to accelerate your future. You can still develop / improve your app and make millions. You can even start a business with it. Trust me. Think all possibilities.
I recently entered another Google competition. It’s not theft when you give something away. If you have precious code, keep it close to your chest. To the competitor who invested 160 hours, your dedication is to be applauded. Hopefully you were in it for the game, not for the winning. I entered a contest that happens to align with my personal and professional interests so the time spent was rewarding in and of itself. Made the video a few days before the deadline and a week after having the notebook in pretty good shape. You will never be paid what you are worth and no one knows how good you are, except you. Chin up. It keeps your nose in the right direction.
