Can't use "Rerun This Turn" in Google Ai Studio Nano banana

In my previous usage (yesterday), I was able to edit the create image again using Nano Banana Ai studio Playground from the prompt by clicking the “Rerun this turn” button normally. But this time, I can’t use that button anymore.
I’ve tried changing browsers, clearing the cache, and using a different ID, but I still can’t use the “Rerun this turn” button.
The button appears normally, but there is a stop mark, making it unusable.
Sorry for my Bad English.

The same problem with version 2.5, which is very strange. But the strangest thing is that version 2.5 does not allow you to “Repeat this action” only after messages containing an image file or a text file. That is, before the message with the file appears, 2.5 allows you to “Repeat this movement”, and after that the button is blocked.

Hey,

Hope you’re keeping well.

The “Rerun this turn” control in the Google AI Studio Playground is disabled whenever a previous session element or model response cannot be re‑executed under the current project context or quota. This can occur if your active project exceeded daily model usage limits or if the Playground session token expired. To restore functionality, verify that your project still has access to the model you used by opening AI Studio > Project Settings > Model Access and confirming quota availability under Vertex AI > Quotas in the Cloud Console. If your account is tied to a temporary or trial environment, start a new Playground session by clicking New chat or refreshing the Studio context to generate a fresh turn history.

If the button remains greyed out after quota confirmation, it may be linked to a transient UI issue in the current release of AI Studio. In that case, sign out, clear all ai.googleusercontent.com cookies, and create a new project workspace. Persistent loss of the rerun feature across projects should be reported through the “Send feedback” option in AI Studio.

Thanks and regards,
Taz

Thanks for the reply, but I didn’t quite understand you. My chat shows 250,000 gemini 2.5 tokens. Even with high photo processing settings, this is estimated at 2,200 tokens. However, the chat still blocks the “Restart this transition" button. I have a feeling that this is a mistake, because after refreshing the page, the button unlocks. That is:

  1. Chat for 250,000 tokens.
  2. Send a message containing the file. In my case, this is an image that, with maximum processing, does not exceed 2,200 tokens.
  3. The “Restart this transition” button is blocked in all messages that were after the message with the file. This function remains in the messages that were before the message with the file.
  4. After refreshing the page, the “Restart this transition" function is available again in ALL messages, while the file remains.

Hi @Kasidati_Delper @user1157 ,

Welcome to the Forum!
Thank you for reaching out!

It appears this was a temporary problem. We have tested the “rerun this turn” option and it is working as expected.
We recommend you try logging out and then logging back into AI Studio.
Please let us know if the issue still persists.

Hi! I’m still bumping into the same issue. I’ve logged out and logged back in as well.

It happens to me too, whether I enable session saving or leave it temporary. Every generation I’m forced to start from scratch. I’m sorry, but it’s a block you set on Nano Banana 2.5. It’s also incorrect to say that this happens when generation is blocked due to illegal prompts and you’re asked to restart a new chat. I’ve successfully executed several prompts using the same reference character, and now it stops generating legitimate prompts that were previously successful. I hope you can fix this problem because it’s been going on for two or three days.

despite trying everything, it works sometimes and it doesn’t? Even if I’m using the exact same input (either text or image). It was working reliably the since last week, but until this week, it became on and off, despite changing browsers, clearing cache, clearing Gdrive for images, etc.

Me as well. I tried all methods stated here, the return button still not live. I wonder why Google said it functions normal.

Ever since there’s an update to the UI, it does not work.

I have another tab opened 3 days before the update, keeping the old UI intact, and the rerun button still works. When I open another new tab now with the new UI, it won’t work.

I suspect google intentionally/unintentionally disabled rerun to reduce burden on her servers, since it’s much more annoying to rerun the same task hoping for a different result.

Ok, today seems fixed all, thank you Big G.

c’mon, again? Solve this bug, pls.

Hi all,

Thank you for flagging this issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and have escalated it to our internal team for investigation.

Can I Help with this screenshot. Nothing to editing, this block appears after any generation.

Hi @vallesturademonte ,

You can’t re-run a prompt if you’re editing one of the messages. The screenshot isn’t complete but it starts with “Finish editing before rerunning your prompt”.
Could you please provide a screenshot of the entire screen?
