Cannot republish existing app: "Failed to update Cloud Run service: user has exceeded quota" (quotas healthy, empty domain-mapping request in audit log)

Hello AI Studio team,

I cannot publish updates to my existing app. Every Publish attempt fails, and I need to push content changes to the live app. This looks like the same issue reported in several recent threads.

App: SIDE ROAD (갓길)
Cloud project: gen-lang-client-0362891..
Region: asia-east1
Cloud Run service: side-road
Custom URL: side-road.ai.studio
Applet ID: 523b14b5-17ea-4412-8bf8-73c9f1d633ec

What I see:

  1. Publishing from AI Studio fails with:
“Failed to update Cloud Run service: user has exceeded quota. Please try again later.”
  2. Cloud Audit Logs showed a different underlying error:
“Domain mapping already exists for side-road.ai.studio. Please use a different custom url.”
  3. I deleted the existing domain mapping, hoping the republish would recreate it. The domain error disappeared, but publishing still fails with the same quota message, and the logs now show this instead:
“Resource ‘’ of kind ‘ROUTE’ in region ‘asia-east1’ in project ‘gen-lang-client-03628917..’ does not exist.”

The new log entry (google.cloud.run.v1.DomainMappings.CreateDomainMapping, dryRun: “all”, caller = the AI Studio publish in my browser) shows that the request sent by AI Studio has an empty “spec”: {} with no target service (no routeName), with metadata.name = side-road.ai.studio and label managed-by=google-ai-studio. Cloud Run answers code 5 (NOT_FOUND). It looks like the publish flow sends the domain-mapping validation without the target service, and the failure is shown in the UI as “user has exceeded quota”.

What I verified:

  • Cloud Run quotas are not exceeded, including active revisions per region.
  • There are no failed revisions.
  • The existing Cloud Run service is healthy and its run.app URL works.
  • A Remix copy of the app also fails to publish with the same error, so this is not specific to my code or this one app.
  • I tried to recreate the mapping myself in Cloud Shell:
    gcloud beta run domain-mappings create --service=side-road --domain=side-road.ai.studio --region=asia-east1 --project=gen-lang-client-0362891..
It fails with: “does not have permission to access namespaces instance [gen-lang-client-0362891…] (or it may not exist)”.
The project is managed by AI Studio, so I cannot fix this myself.

Request:

  1. Please restore publishing (republish/update) for my existing app and its Cloud Run service “side-road”. This is what I need most.
  2. Please re-attach side-road.ai.studio to that service if it is still reserved for my app.
  3. If possible, please tell me the actual limit or error behind the “user has exceeded quota” message.

Note: I deleted the domain mapping myself while troubleshooting, so side-road.ai.studio is currently not resolving to the service. Please take this into account when restoring.

Thank you.

Bug Report — Google AI Studio cannot republish an existing app

Hello Google AI Studio Support Team,

I am experiencing a persistent publishing issue with my existing application, Los Galácticos FC. Google AI Studio reports that I have exceeded my quota, but my Cloud Run quota checks have not revealed any obvious quota limit being exceeded.

I need help identifying and fixing the issue so I can publish my latest changes without losing my existing application or public URL.

1. Project and deployment details

  • Application: Los Galácticos FC

  • Google Cloud Project ID: funky-base-9w2..

  • Cloud Run service: losgalacticosfc

  • Region: europe-west1

  • Current public URL: https://losgalacticosfc.ai.studio

The application is still accessible at its existing public URL, but it displays the previous version rather than my latest changes.

2. Exact error message

When I attempt to publish my changes from Google AI Studio, I receive:

Failed to update Cloud Run service: user has exceeded quota. Please try again later.

3. Troubleshooting already performed

I have already carried out the following checks:

  • Checked the Cloud Run quotas in Google Cloud Console. No obvious quota limit exceeded was identified.

  • Enabled and checked the relevant Cloud Run, Cloud Build and Artifact Registry APIs.

  • Examined Cloud Run audit logs for deployment errors.

  • Tried publishing again using a different URL, but the same quota error occurred.

  • Confirmed that the existing application remains online, but the latest changes are not deployed.

  • Confirmed that another application, MeatPilot, can be published successfully through Google AI Studio.

4. Relevant Cloud Run audit log

The audit logs contain a CreateDomainMapping error for my existing application.

The exact error message is:

Domain mapping already exists for losgalacticosfc.ai.studio. Please use a different custom url.

This suggests that Google AI Studio may be attempting to create a domain mapping that already exists, rather than updating the existing deployment correctly.

However, changing the URL does not resolve the publishing failure, so the issue may involve a broader problem in the AI Studio publishing workflow.

5. Expected behaviour

I expect Google AI Studio to update the existing Cloud Run deployment and publish my latest application changes while preserving my existing public URL.

Instead, publishing fails with a quota error despite no obvious quota exhaustion being identified.

6. Request for assistance

Could the Google AI Studio team please investigate:

  1. Why the publishing workflow returns a quota-exceeded error when no obvious quota limit has been exceeded.

  2. Why the workflow attempts to create an existing domain mapping.

  3. Whether there is a known issue affecting updates to existing AI Studio applications.

  4. How I can safely republish the application without deleting my current Cloud Run service, losing my public URL, or taking the live application offline.

I have downloaded a backup of my application source code, but I would strongly prefer to resolve this issue through the normal Google AI Studio publishing workflow rather than rebuilding or redeploying the application manually.

Project ID: funky-base-9w2pc
Cloud Run service: losgalacticosfc
Region: europe-west1

Thank you for investigating this issue and providing a safe resolution.

Additional diagnostic information — Los Galácticos FC

The application remains accessible at https:// losgalacticosfc.ai.studio but republishing fails with:

Failed to update Cloud Run service: user has exceeded quota. Please try again later.

The Cloud Run audit logs also show:

Domain mapping already exists for losgalacticosfc.ai.studio. Please use a different custom url.

Project ID: funky-base-9w2..
Cloud Run service: losgalacticos.. Region: europe-west1`

The application builds successfully, and no obvious Cloud Run quota exhaustion or application runtime errors have been identified.

Could the AI Studio publishing team investigate whether the existing domain mapping is incorrectly handled during updates to an already-published application? I need to update the existing application while preserving its current URL and data. I do not want to unpublish the application or create a replacement deployment manually.

Please investigate the publishing orchestration and domain mapping association for this application.
