I was scrolling on Google and found this article about generative ai (https://glance.com/blogs/glanceai/ai-trends/generative-ai-explained-chatgpt-gpt-siri-grammarly-are-they-genai) and now I’m kinda confused like are tools we use everyday like ChatGPT Siri and Grammarly actually considered generative ai? I mean they create stuff but is that the same as what generative ai really is? like and how ChatGPT writes whole paragraphas and Grammarlly suggests sentences but does that count as generative aior is it something else? And Siri answers questions but is it technically generative ai too? The article said something about how generative AI creates new content but I’m not suree if all these tools fit that definition exactly or if they’re different types of aI? Like whre do we draw the line with what counts as generative AI and what doesn’t? Would love to hear what others think about this especially if you’ve read up on generative AI too
Hi @Rashid_Shaikh,
Welcome to the forum! Let’s break down Generative AI versus classic Machine Learning. Generative AI’s defining characteristic is its ability to create new content. Think of it like this: instead of just analyzing existing data, it generates something entirely new – be it text, images, code, or music. The models you mentioned, like those that complete sentences or answer questions with original responses, all fall under this generative category.
In contrast, traditional Machine Learning models excel at tasks like classification (categorizing data), clustering (grouping similar data points), and segmentation (dividing data into meaningful segments). They find patterns in existing data to make predictions or identify groupings. Generative AI goes a step further by using learned patterns to invent new, original outputs. So, while both are powerful, they have fundamentally different capabilities. Hope this clarifies the key difference!
