Hi @keertk-google I have the following question regarding this competition:

  • Firstly, are multiple project submission allowed from a team?
  • Can a participant be in multiple teams? or just one?

Can we use any Programming Language or Framework for building the app and will this affect the scoring/evaluation? Ex. A Web App using Dot Net and React.
And do you have any restrictions for the same?

Hey @BloodLineAlpha_Dev It can be a new or existing project! It does not need to be from scratch. It just needs to integrate the Gemini API

Hey @Benaiah One submission per account registered. Google is not responsible for how the prizes are divided if your team wins. So use your best judgement when creating/picking a team.

Hey @loctruong.app we will only judge you based on the app judging criteria and the prominent use of the Gemini API. If the app is incredible and Gemini played a significant role that is what we are looking for.

What if after the competition i want to build a company/startup on top of the project? Will I be allowed to use the prototype for that?

เจธเจค เจธเฉเจฐเฉ€ เจ…เจ•เจพเจฒ, @Gurneesh_Budhiraja. เจคเฉเจนเจพเจกเจพ เจงเฉฐเจจเจตเจพเจฆ, for your relevant question. Many participants in this competition might have this ponder on their minds. From the Official Rules:

โ€œAs between Sponsor and You, You retain ownership of all intellectual and industrial property rights (including moral rights) in and to the information, in connection with Your Submission. As a condition of receiving the Prize, each Confirmed Winner grants Google, its parent, affiliates, agents, and partner companies, a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to use, translate, dub, broadcast, exploit, reproduce, adapt, modify, rearrange, add to, delete from, copy, publish, distribute, publicly perform, create a derivative work from and publicly display, in whole or in part, Your Submission, app code, and any other materials or other recordings that may be made of or by You (including accompanying materials and features, any names, locations, performances and likeness therein) in any and all media, including but not limited to digital and electronic media, computer, audio, and audio visual media (whether now existing or hereafter devised), in any language, throughout the world, and in any manner, advertising, promotional, commercial or any other purposes, without further review, notice, approval, consideration or compensation to any Confirmed Winner or any third party in connection with advertising and promotion, including, but not limited to, the right to make screenshots, excerpts, animations, video clips and compilations available for promotional purposes.โ€

From what is written above, we have the intellectual and industrial property rights to build a company/startup on top of our projects to participate in the competition. However, from my understanding, if we are a prize winner, we might need to share these rights with Google, its parent, affiliates, agents, and partner companies. Do you have any concerns regarding your competitive advantage should you be a prize winner?

hey @Lloyd_Hightower
Will one app be considered for multiple categories?
(aka if we submit an android game app, will it be considered for both android and game categories)
Thanks

According to the official rules, an app can be considered for multiple categories. Each prize category has specific criteria, and an app that meets the criteria for more than one category can be eligible for multiple prizes. However, there is a limitation within certain categories:

  • For the Technology category, each app can only win one of the specific sub-category prizes (e.g., Best Flutter app, Best Android app, Best Web app, Best use of ARCore app, Best use of Firebase app, Best Game app). This means if you submit an Android game app, it will be considered for both the Best Android app and Best Game app categories, but if it wins in one sub-category, it cannot win in another sub-category within Technology.

You can find this information in the Prizes section of the official rules.

For more details, you can visit the official rules of the Gemini API Developer Competition on the competition website.

Let me know if you need any further clarification!

According to the official rules, you retain ownership of your submission, including the prototype you develop for the competition. Specifically, Section 10. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS states:

โ€œEntrants retain ownership of all intellectual property rights (including moral rights) in and to their submission.โ€

This means you are allowed to use your prototype to build a company or startup after the competition. However, keep in mind that while you retain ownership, by entering the competition, you grant the sponsor (Google) certain rights to use your submission for promotional purposes.

For more details, you can review Section 10. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS in the official rules of the Gemini API Developer Competition.

You can find the official rules on the competition website at Join the Gemini API Developer Competition  |  Google for Developers.

What if my product mainly uses Chrome and vscode extensions? However, it will still use Google Gemini API. Will this still be considered an app and eligible for the competition? In short, if it is not a web app but still uses the API in a creative way thatโ€™s still will be considered?
