Logan Kilpatrick posted on X that AI Studio is transitioning to be fully API key based. Does this mean all queries will now be paid in AI Studio? I’d really appreciate some clarification as to what will actually be changing. It was said in the past that AI Studio is always free. Will that now change?

I think this means that AI Studio UI “free and separate, using your Google login” will instead be “API-key-connected” and thus observable as normal API key usage, logged in your billing, etc. And maybe needing to pay in the same pattern and manner in the UI as you pay for making API calls, free API account with limited models and limits or billed API account. Also see “tier” - need to have paid $250+ to level up now with AI studio API keys.
This is how the OpenAI Playground works - the access rights and charges are connected directly to an API organization.
