Google just rolled out a raw, severely buggy update to AI Studio, and the result is completely unacceptable. For more than 10 hours now, the entire platform has been practically down and unusable for everyone, throwing errors left and right.
Why is a platform of this magnitude being managed so carelessly?
Many of us aren’t just playing around here. We are building serious applications and working on tight deadlines for real client projects. The biggest underlying problem is that AI Studio is a closed system. We can’t just export a broken project, take it to another IDE or platform, and bring it back later. It only works one way. Because of this lock-in, when a catastrophic update like this breaks the system, our hands are tied and all we can do is sit around and wait.
How does a massive tech organization manage a core developer platform in such a crappy, haphazard way?
I have immense respect for Google and I absolutely love the advancements you’re making in the AI space as a whole. But it genuinely seems like different departments are operating on entirely different standards of quality. The team managing the AI Studio side of things looks like a total disaster right now. Pushing an untested update to production and taking down the workflow of countless developers is incredibly unprofessional.
When are you going to start treating AI Studio, and the current coders who rely on it, seriously? What is actually wrong with your QA and deployment process right now?
We need transparency, and we need a system we can actually rely on.
Yes. First of all they removed the reset conversation feature idk why. Now i have to remix which is worst. They its just taking forever to think. I waited like 30 min.
I mean, are they really working on a fix about this? Like, you know, they should have been able to see this before deploying the updates or such. Going 24 hours having this issue tho.
I lost my project do you have any idea how to get it back - I downloaded the older version of my project 3 days back even that I am unable to import..the build in preview just breaks…rest my whole last 3 days of work has just disappeared.
And the absolute lack of communication makes it worse.
To add to my original point: I’m sure the dev team is scrambling to fix this and not just sitting around, but the total lack of professional communication is inexcusable.
If a critical platform breaks for all users, you send out an alert. You put up a maintenance block with a simple notification: “The website is experiencing problems, we’re working on a solution.” Instead, we get radio silence. This complete failure to communicate is exactly why I’m saying AI Studio is being managed so carelessly.
Are the heads of Google even aware of what’s going on here? We need a way to escalate this and get our word to them, because I refuse to believe Google leadership would willingly allow such low-level, amateur operations under their umbrella.

Logan, the radio silence from the team is unacceptable right now. Can we get a comment on this total lack of communication? We are completely in the dark. What exactly is happening behind the scenes, and what is the ETA for a fix?
I guess because it’s a free product or “sandbox playground” it is not seen as a “real” product that they are responsible for answering for when these things happen. I get it.
The “it’s free” argument doesn’t hold up. It’s only partially free.. once you hit the limits, you are pushed to the paid API. With features like git-push and dedicated deployment options, this is a full-blown developer tool. We are building and maintaining real, working products here.
I don’t know what you’re building but I’ve never hit any limits yet. Also, you knew going in what you were getting before starting a project. You can continue offline if it is vital for you it just takes more work to get your diff’s copy/pasted back in. People do it. I’m frustrated too but I don’t rely on ai studio for 100% of what I do.
Stop making excuses for them, man. When a platform operates this carelessly, they deserve to be called out. Period. I know I can export my project, but because AI Studio only pushes out one way, I’d never be able to bring it back. It’s a lock-in trap. Thanks for the workaround suggestion, but I’ll wait a little longer before deciding to pull the plug entirely.
Hey folks! We are still working through the rollout. We did a ground up re-write of AI Studio’s Build experience which had a pretty large blast radius, hoping this is fully fixed in the next few hours! Hang tight.
There is a clear performance improvement, and love that it is now closer to a local dev environment.
Maybe I’m missing something, but why oh why did you remove the ‘clear chat’ button, and what’s the deal with ‘Remix’? Why not keep the ‘Save copy’, which is far more intuitive? ‘Remix’ sounds and functions like a gimmick (“because that’s what other AI apps do”).
It may be that I just don’t understand what your ‘new experience’ intent is, but the above points seem like a regression.
