The deadline counter on the official page is wrong- Urgent Organizers (It is not 12 August 2024 at 11:59 PM UTC, as it should be!)

@keertk-google , @Lloyd_Hightower : There’s a problem in the competition deadline counter on the official page here: Join the Gemini API Developer Competition  |  Google for Developers . Normally the deadline is 12 august 2024 at 11:59 PM UTC (like in kaggle competitions), but according to the counter the dedaline is 12 august 2024, 8h am UTC ??? how come? there’s 17 hours less. Now it is 12 july 2024, 8:13 PM, and the counter showing: 30
Days, 11 Hours, 46 Minutes ==> It should show 31 Days, 3 Hours, 46 Minutes (if the deadline is 12 august 2024 at 11:59 PM UTC).
Please clarify this point, as it’s very important. What is your definition of the deadline 12 August 2024: is it PDT time, UTC time, PST time and and what time exactly ?

Yes, please correct the timer

LOL. Just in case, everyone should submit before the counter as well as the time they mentioned in the rules. The website timer is based on your system machine time I think vs. the rules is written for UTC time.

This has nothing to do with the machine system (UTC is Universal Time), the number of days and hours should be the same for everyone, from America to Asia. As I write this, the counter should display 4 days 7 hours (it is 17h UTC, now). The problem isn’t that, it’s that the counter is linked to the submission button, so if it displays the wrong number as it does now, the submission button will be disabled before deadline!

Tnanks, the competition finishes on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 11:59 UTC. It is currently 17 h UTC (Thursday, August 8, 2024). The counter shows 3 days 15 hours when it should display 4 days 7 hours. Please, make the correction to be coherent with what is said (on August, 12 at 11:59 UTC). The submit button will normally be disabled after the counter reaches 0 (that is, after three days and 15 hours, if it is not fixed), thus it has to be fixed. As a result, many will not be able to submit, while they still have time before the real deadline.

Hmm. I meant the timer is set against deadline of CST 11:59pm instead of UTC 11:59pm.

no, no neither UTC, nor CST, because even if the deadline is Monday August 12, 2024 at 11:59 pm CST, it will be 5 hours more % UTC, so instead of 4 days 7 hours, it should dispkay 4 days 12 hours (the same if it is againt PDT (california time etc:), it should show 4 days 14 hours . So the timer is incorrect and doesn’t refer to any time reference in the world…Anyay, it should be fixed

Sorry, we caught this late Friday and fixed it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
