With a week to go before the paid tier becomes available, there are a lot of unanswered questions about what we’ll see. We have this forum (which is a good first step), but still lots of unknowns such as:
Will there be a site status / API status page?
How will people be able to add billing or make sure an API key is associated with the free tier?
Similar to the Google Cloud API Service Details Quota/Limits page, will there be some way to check what our current usage of the API is? (And, more importantly, when we will hit the usage limits?)
Also similar to Google Cloud API Service Details, will we be able to see overall usage metrics (latency, error rate, etc)?
Thanks for the post, Allen! The team is currently working on documentation that will answer a lot of the questions we’re getting about billing. We’ll share it here as soon as it’s ready.
Will there be a site status / API status page? Yes, you’ll be able to see the overview of your API Keys and whether or not the corresponding projects are billed. You’ll also get a link for each project that leads you directly into Cloud Billing in a separate tab so you can view your payment details, quota usage, etc.
How will people be able to add billing or make sure an API key is associated with the free tier? We will be rolling out new product screens in AI Studio that show you an overview of your API keys and the project billing status.
Similar to the Google Cloud API Service Details Quota/Limits page, will there be some way to check what our current usage of the API is? (And, more importantly, when we will hit the usage limits?) Yes, this will be visible in Cloud Billing and you will see links to Cloud Billing in AI Studio.
I just realized that my point may have been lost, or wasn’t answered.
The question isn’t if I will be able to see the status of my keys.
The question is if there will be some page like status.cloud.google.com or status.openai.com that when people get 500 errors for half an hour can look at to see if it is a known problem.
I’m surprised that there hasn’t been one since the start, especially with all the people coming in and complaining about getting those errors on the Discord
@afirstenberg apologies for the delay - trying to gather more info from the team and will keep you posted.
Regarding your earlier question – all of the billing-related changes (e.g. new AI Studio product screens, etc.) will only be rolled out once billing is in effect. More formal comms about this + documentation will be coming soon.
Hello,
I think users are eager to know if there will be a dedicated site status or API status page to monitor service availability and health. The clarity is needed on how users can manage billing and ensure their API keys are associated correctly with the free tier. Some users are hoping for tools akin to Google Cloud’s API Service Details page, allowing them to track current API usage and anticipate reaching usage limits.
