Missing conversation in IDE (SSH)

Hi there, In the past few days I’ve been using antigravity inside ssh, after disconnecting and reconnecting in the next day, the conversation doesn’t load, the latest one it says 4 days ago, which is weird, but all the plans, walkthrough all are present in the .gemini folder (inside the vps) with the id acef784b-e0d8-4775-a844-c70e23d50e9e

my suggestion is if possible improve the history by showing what folder it belongs, and load based on provided conversation id, thanks

Hi there,

I understand how frustrating this is. You are likely facing the same issue that many of us (myself included) have been experiencing over the past 1–3 months. I tried all the suggested workarounds, but unfortunately, none of them worked for me to get the “Recent” list back to normal.

Eventually, new conversations started appearing in the “Recent” list, but the old ones never returned. However, I found a way to “manually” retrieve the context of those lost threads. Here is what I did:

  1. Open a new chat.

  2. Point the AI to your conversation folder: Ask the AI to look into the \.gemini\antigravity\conversations directory.

  3. Request a list: Ask something like: “Please list all the conversation subfolders in this directory, sorted by the date and time they were last modified.”

  4. Pick your thread: The AI should provide a list of IDs. Identify the one you were working on by the time stamp.

  5. Retrieve the context: Ask the AI: “Using folder [Insert ID here], please show me the Implementation Plan and the current Task status for that project.”

By doing this, the AI can “see” your previous progress even if the thread isn’t in your Recent list. Note that since you are in a “New Chat,” the AI might suggest some slight variations in the project direction, but it’s a great way to jump back into your work.

I hope this helps you get back on track!

Ah, i see but when I’m asking question, maybe back and fort with the ai, is it possible to recover its conversation?

Exactly. While you can’t restore the word-for-word chat history perfectly, you can definitely recover the project’s progress and context.

Keep in mind that starting a “New Thread” means you’re bringing in a fresh AI context. Each session might have slightly different “reasoning” or a different way of approaching things compared to the previous one. This means the AI might suggest a slightly different direction or even forget specific nuances discussed in the lost chat.

To bridge this gap, you should explicitly tell the AI: “Please read the Implementation Plan and Task.md that were in progress in folder [ID] and resume from there.”

This will restore the project state, if not the conversation itself. If the AI starts saying things like “We haven’t done this yet” (even though you already did in the previous thread), just nudge it: “In the previous thread, we already completed that part. Please re-scan the folder context and check the existing files again.” It’s usually pretty good at catching up once you point it in the right direction!

Same here, could not load conversations in the SSH connections.
