M5 MacBook Pro — persistent black screen bug on v1.18.x even with known fixes applied

Environment: MacBook Pro M5, 16GB, macOS Tahoe 26.3.1, Antigravity v1.18.x

Issue: Persistent black screen rendering bug. The entire IDE UI (sidebar, tabs, title bar, editor) goes black. The integrated terminal is the least affected — it remains mostly visible but still shows garbled text with missing characters. Using Reload Window makes it worse (full black screen).

Happens frequently when running Claude Code in the integrated terminal.

Fixes I’ve already tried (none worked):

  • Disabled Shell Integration (per mack’s thread)

  • Disabled Terminal Sandbox

  • Launched with --disable-skia-graphite

  • Full Mac restart

Has anyone on Apple Silicon (especially M5) found a working fix?

Hi @carlitochill,

Welcome to the Forum,

Since you are on a v1.18.x release, could you try updating to our very latest Antigravity v1.20.5 and let us know if you are still experiencing the persistent black screen issue?

Hi @chunduriv, thanks for the quick reply! I actually checked and I’m already on v1.20.5 (Electron 39.2.3, Chromium 142.0.7444.175, Darwin arm64 25.3.0). Sorry, my original post incorrectly mentioned v1.18.x. The “no updates available” dialog confirms I’m on the latest version. So the black screen issue is still present on v1.20.5. Any other suggestions?

hey @chunduriv, just following up on this. i’m still on v1.20.5 and the black screen issue keeps happening, especially when running Claude Code in the integrated terminal. any other suggestions i could try? happy to provide logs or screen recordings if that helps.

Same happens on my M1.
