Google AI Pro student offer: Claude 5.5 eligibility in standalone Antigravity IDE

Hi everyone,

I would like to clarify both subscription eligibility and model availability in the standalone Antigravity IDE.

My situation

  • I activated the free 12-month Google AI Pro student offer in 2025.

  • The offer is active until November 2026.

  • I have been offered a discounted paid subscription starting after the student offer ends.

  • I use the standalone Antigravity IDE, not the Antigravity App or CLI.

  • In the IDE, I currently see Gemini 3.8 Flash and Claude Sonnet/Opus 4.6, but not Claude Sonnet/Opus 5.5.

Previously, I also had access to Gemini 3.1 Pro and the older Flash models. Until these recent changes, I had not noticed any differences in model eligibility attributable to my student subscription.

Claude 5.5 and student-offer eligibility

The Models documentation lists Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 for non-trial Google AI Pro subscriptions. I also read a forum reply suggesting that accounts still showing Claude 4.6 may be recognized as trial or promotional subscriptions.

Could someone clarify the following?

  1. Is the free 12-month Google AI Pro student offer classified as “Pro Trial” for Antigravity model eligibility, even though it provides Google AI Pro benefits?

  2. Are Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 supported in the standalone Antigravity IDE for eligible paid Pro accounts, or only in the newer App, CLI, and IDE extensions? I would like to distinguish subscription eligibility restrictions from limitations of the standalone IDE itself.

  3. When my student offer transitions to the discounted paid subscription, will my account become eligible for Claude 5.5?

  4. With Claude 4.6 listed for removal on November 2, what models will remain available to student-offer accounts that have not yet transitioned to paid Pro?

  5. If an early transition to paid Pro is necessary to access these models, which support channel can confirm whether doing so would preserve my scheduled discounted offer?

Why is Argon excluded from the standalone IDE?

I understand that Gemini 4 Argon is currently listed as unavailable in the standalone Antigravity IDE. However, I would also like to understand the reason for this exclusion, rather than simply being redirected to the App, CLI, or IDE extensions.

Is this a temporary technical limitation, a staged rollout, or a longer-term product decision? Is support for Argon planned for the standalone IDE, and is there any timeline you can share?

More broadly, will the standalone Antigravity IDE continue receiving new flagship model integrations?

The standalone IDE is my primary development environment, and switching to another interface would disrupt my existing workflow. My goal is to keep working in it while understanding which restrictions come from my subscription and which come from the product itself.

If possible, I would appreciate clarification from someone on the Google Antigravity team, particularly regarding the reason for Argon’s exclusion and future model support.

Antigravity IDE version/build: 2.5.5
Operating system: Windows

Thank you.

Same situation here. This is happening across tools, not just in the standalone IDE:

  • Environment: Antigravity CLI 1.4.2 & IDE extension v. 1.8.0

  • Status: Active Google AI Pro (student offer)

  • Behavior: Only Claude 4.6 and Gemini 3.8 Flash are accessible; Gemini 4 Argon and Claude 5.5 are blocked with the message: “Gemini 4 Argon is currently available to Ultra and paid Pro plan subscribers.”

It looks like promotional/student plans are being categorized as trial accounts across the entire ecosystem (CLI, extensions, and standalone IDE alike). Hopefully, we can get an official clarification on whether this will change once the promotional period transitions into the discounted paid plan.

Hi @PROGABBOMALA and @David_Balaban,

Thank you both for laying out your questions and environment details clearly.

Here is how model eligibility and surface support work for your accounts:

  1. 12-Month Student Offer Classification (Google AI Pro (Trial)): Yes, promotional, student, and partner-bundled 12-month free Google AI Pro memberships are provisioned under the Google AI Pro (Trial) tier across all Antigravity surfaces (App, CLI, IDE extensions, and standalone IDE) for the duration of the free promotional period (Plans). Gemini 4 Argon, Claude Sonnet 5.5 (thinking), and Claude Opus 5.5 (thinking) are available on Google AI Pro (non-trial / paid subscriptions only) and Google AI Ultra (Choose a model).
  2. Standalone Antigravity IDE vs. Subscription Eligibility: Claude Sonnet 5.5 (thinking) and Claude Opus 5.5 (thinking) are supported in the standalone Antigravity IDE (v2.5.5) for paid (non-trial) Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Only Gemini 4 Argon carries the surface restriction limiting it to the Antigravity App (v2.24.0), Antigravity CLI (v1.4.2) (GitHub Releases), and Antigravity IDE extensions (IDE Extensions). On your current accounts, Claude 5.5 (and Gemini 4 Argon in the CLI and IDE extension) is unavailable due to the promotional/trial plan status.
  3. Transitioning to a Billed Subscription: Yes. Once your membership transitions from the free promotional period to a billed (non-trial) Google AI Pro subscription, your account becomes eligible for Claude Sonnet 5.5 (thinking) and Claude Opus 5.5 (thinking) across all surfaces (including the standalone Antigravity IDE v2.5.5), as well as Gemini 4 Argon in the Antigravity App (v2.24.0), Antigravity CLI (v1.4.2), and Antigravity IDE extensions.
  4. Model Availability After November 2, 2026: When Claude Sonnet 4.6 (thinking), Claude Opus 4.6 (thinking), and GPT-OSS-120b are removed on November 2, 2026, accounts remaining on a free promotional Google AI Pro (Trial) plan will continue to have access to Gemini 3.8 Flash (Low, Medium, and High thinking levels) along with the higher Google AI Pro 5-hour refreshing and weekly rate limits (Plans).
  5. Early Transition to a Paid Plan & Student Billing Questions: If you would like to transition from your free promotional student trial to a paid Google AI Pro subscription early to unlock Claude 5.5 and Gemini 4 Argon, you can submit an upgrade request here. To confirm billing details or how an early transition interacts with a scheduled renewal discount on your Google One account, please contact Google One Support.

Please let us know if you need any additional information.

Thank you, this clarifies the subscription issue and confirms that I can keep using the standalone IDE with Claude 5.5 after my scheduled transition to paid Pro.

My billing page shows €5.49/month starting November 2, 2026, until November 2, 2027. Based on your explanation, I understand that this billed subscription will qualify as non-trial Pro.

Could you also address the remaining product question: why is Gemini 4 Argon excluded from the standalone IDE, and is support planned?

Finally, is there a documented entitlement refresh time after the first payment, in case Claude 5.5 does not appear immediately?

Hi @PROGABBOMALA,

You’re very welcome.

Here are the answers to your two follow-up questions:

  1. Why Gemini 4 Argon Is Excluded From the Standalone Antigravity IDE (v2.5.5) & Roadmap Status:
    • While our Models documentation notes that Gemini 4 Argon is not available in the standalone Antigravity IDE (v2.5.5), we do not have public details to share on whether this exclusion is a temporary technical limitation or a longer-term product decision, nor do we have a roadmap or timeline to share for standalone IDE support.
  2. Entitlement Refresh Window After Your First Billed Payment on November 2, 2026:
    • Once your scheduled paid billing cycle (€5.49/month) is charged by Google One on November 2, 2026, entitlement synchronization typically completes within a few hours, though it can take up to 24–48 hours to propagate across all backend services.
    • After your payment is processed, simply run Ctrl+Shift+P → Antigravity: Reset Onboarding (or sign out and sign back in) in Antigravity IDE (v2.5.5) so your model picker refreshes to display Claude Sonnet 5.5 (thinking) and Claude Opus 5.5 (thinking).
