I am using gemini-3.1-flash-live-preview on the Gemini API free plan.
Without Google Search enabled, the Live connection and voice responses work properly. However, when testing with googleSearch enabled, the WebSocket terminates with code 1011 and gives the error “You exceeded your current quota”.
In AI Studio, grounding with Google Search for “Gemini 3” is displayed as “Usage 0 / Limit 0”. On the other hand, the official pricing table lists Google Search for this Live model as “Supported” even under the Free Tier.
Are there any additional activation steps or usage conditions required to use free search with this Live model? Also, could you please let me know why the search limit is 0 and where the best place to verify this would be?
I would like to use this within the free tier without enabling billing.
