Hello,
I am writing to report an access issue with Google AI Studio / Gemini API
related to geographic detection.
I am physically located in Martinique, which is an overseas region of France
(fully part of France and the European Union).
However, Google AI Studio reports that the service is not available in my region.
Technical details:
- ISP: Digicel Antilles Françaises Guyane SA
- Public IPv4: detected as Martinique (Caribbean)
- Country detected by IP geolocation services: Martinique
- Google account country: France
- EU resident: Yes
The issue appears to be caused by IP-based geographic filtering.
Although “France” is listed as a supported country, French overseas regions
(Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Réunion) are currently excluded due to
separate territorial classification.
This behavior has already been reported by multiple developers:
From a legal and regulatory standpoint:
- Martinique is part of France
- Martinique is part of the European Union
- EU digital service rules apply identically
Request:
Could you please confirm whether this exclusion is intentional?
If not, could the region classification be corrected so that French overseas
regions are included when “France” is supported?
Thank you for your clarification.
Best regards,
jimmy
France (Martinique)
