Gemini API - Mayotte (YT) should be supported as French territory

Hello,

I am a developer located in Mayotte, which is an official French overseas
department (Département et Région d’Outre-Mer) and an integral part of
the European Union since 2011 (EU regulation 774/2011).

Mayotte uses:

  • Country code: YT (ISO 3166-1)
  • Currency: Euro (EUR)
  • Legal framework: French and EU law (GDPR applies)

Currently, the Gemini API returns HTTP 400 FAILED_PRECONDITION
“User location is not supported” for users in Mayotte,
while it is supported in mainland France.

This appears to be an oversight in the geolocation configuration,
not an intentional policy decision, since Mayotte is legally
part of France and the EU.

Please consider adding Mayotte to the list of supported regions.

The five DROM (Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Réunion, and Mayotte) are legally identical to mainland France. They are:

  • Fully governed by French and EU law (GDPR applies)

  • Official parts of the European Union and the Eurozone

  • Represented in the French National Assembly and the European Parliament

  • Subject to all EU regulations, including the Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act

Therefore, excluding these territories from services available in mainland France constitutes an inconsistency, as users in these locations are legally the same as users in Paris, Lyon, or Marseille.

Regarding this subject.

I have to use a VPN set to France to be able to use Gemini… And it turns out it does not even work sometimes because some geoloc magic happens and still places me in Mayotte…

Mayotte is a French territory, same as Paris.

Please could you escalate this issue to the relevant team.
