Is it possible for the model developers to offer separate ‘thinking’ and ‘non-thinking’ model versions? Gemini 2.5 Pro’s performance is terrible. Its abilities in translation, question answering, and analysis lag behind the 2.0 model, let alone the fact that it takes a very long time to respond due to thinking. For instance, Gemini 2.5 Pro needs ~60 seconds just to process ~3k tokens of text, whereas Gemini 2.0 Pro takes ~15 seconds and Gemini Flash takes ~5 seconds. The increase in the maximum token limit per message is great, but the performance itself is very poor.

I highly agree, but also, anecdotally, from my own use so far, and from the research available, reasoning models seem to be far worse on difficult but everyday natural language tasks, like creative writing, or collaborative learning. If you’re not solving logic puzzles the reasoning models are such overkill and forcing 2.5 pro to be a reasoning model is just unhelpful, but at the same time unless you’re doing like the most basic copy editing or trying to write something really basic like a summary of a document, Flash is just way too underpowered and its performance is seriously lacking

fully agreed, also add it’s terrible performance in creative writing…
for research capabilities it is the best model, but for regular users, no.
honestly.
i really think we need an option to turn off the thinking on 2.5, yes it could be useful sometimes but it takes too long for basic queries and also gets blocked by safety filters sometimes even if everything is off.

Oui, je suis d’accord. Mais il est néanmoins important que les bugs soient corrigés et corrigés, et surtout que les utilisateurs bénéficient d’une certaine liberté de choix quant aux différents modèles, d’autant plus que, même au sein d’une même génération, les modèles peuvent sembler avoir des personnalités et des capacités très différentes. Par exemple, Gemini-Exp-1206 me manque beaucoup, car je trouvais personnellement que c’était l’un des meilleurs modèles pour l’écriture créative et qu’il favorisait vraiment le travail collaboratif. En revanche, Gemini 2.1 expérimental et l’actuel Gemini 2.5 expérimental semblent tous deux assez rigides et ressemblent davantage à un conférencier ou à un professeur dont j’assiste aux permanences qu’à un ami qui travaille avec moi sur un projet.
