Gemini-2.5-flash-preview-09-2025 : “API request failed with status 401“

I use the model **gemini-2.5-flash-preview-09-2025 in my canvas apps. Now its not working anymore. Since yesterday(2026/03/06), I kept receiving the following response: “API request failed with status 401“.

I try to switch to other models , but still not working.

Can anyone help me?**

I am having the same problem. Code that was working perfectly until this morning that relies on image generation via Imagen suddenly started spitting 401 errors. I’m not using any personal API keys, just my pro account and the code in Canvas was doing its own thing by calling the Imagen API. Help!

Devs, is there a replacement model for usage without api key in canvas?

Experiencing the same here. Started a few days ago for me.

Sadly, gemini-2.5-flash-preview-09-2025 was shut down on February 17, 2026.

Yes, I’m also having the same issue, whenever I use the model: gemini-2.5-flash-preview-09-2025 & gemini-2.5-flash-image-preview in Gemini Canvas environment. I keep getting “Authentication Error 401. Your Session may have expired. Please refresh the page.“ Occasionally, it (the app) works but most of the time it doesn’t.

I understand that gemini-2.5-flash-preview-09-2025 was deprecated on February 17, 2026. But on that day until a few days back, it worked perfectly in Gemini Canvas.

I’m in the same situation. I thought I was the only one, but I’m relieved to find your comments.

Any update on this? Literally all of my canvas apps that I spent forever perfecting are now completely useless. Super frustrating as I used a lot of these for work.

I have some good news to share with everyone: Gemini has now restored the Gemini Flash 2.5 Preview model, so all previous programs can continue to be used!

it was back then shutdowned but now i think they had restored that might be the reason of your API request failed with status 401.
