I am saving all my prompts to my Google Drive and I have auto saving enabled. Despite that, when I lock my computer and come back to it, sometimes the AI Studio forgets the most recent chat history. It is rolled back to hours or sometimes even days before.
I have been experiencing the same issue this week. After 1,5 hours of work lost I decided to start making copies of my prompts / answers in a google doc to keep them safe. Please address this issue, it will save me a lot of time.

My suspicion is that it is an issure related to autosaving + google drive version control. I checked version management on the drive file, and saw it stopped working after 100 revisions.
It says it should start removing the oldest versions after 100 are saved, but I think the opposite is happening : no more new versions are saved.
Iām trying to solve the issue temporarily myself by switching of autosave in the settings at aistudio, and see if I can remember saving. I just checked : manually saving also adds up to the number of revisions, but this will not reach 100 anytime soon / as qucik as with the autosave functionality.

There may also be an issue if there is more than one window open with a chat. The second window without the most recent history overwrites the newer if that is activated.

One of my chats has just reverted to a state from 6 days ago. Have been using it on and off for the past 24 hours and so Iāve lost some important recent stuff.

Can confirm this is still happening.
Iāve had this happen to me twice now (to my knowledge).
I havenāt experienced any crashed and this isnāt due to the prompts not saving. They have been saving over several days.
One project I had come back to several times over the course of a week or two. The only versions I can find for it now were created on the day the initial prompt file was created and initially updated. All versions since are missing, not in the trash just gone.
Autosave is enabled and Iām 100% certain that versions have saved numerous times since. Even the media Iāve uploaded to those conversations is still in the google drive but the chat history is gone and nowhere to be found.

This is the most frustrating bug and it essentially makes this product useless. There is no point in investing any time into a conversation when it can randomly vanish completely, only showing up in your āActivityā section.

Hello!, today this happened o me aswell, model rolled back about an hour of intensive work. Iāve started making project status dump prompts and saving them in text files in case the instance is unusable and I have to start another chat once again.
Iāve already had to do that 3 or 4 times before due to the UI becoming unusable past a certain number of tokens (lag and messages just not loading) which is a threshold that has been diminishing, used to be able to work fine for up to 300k, but now it seems to be breaking down even faster, my last chat started giving me all kind of issues at about 120k.

Just had this happen to me as well ā lag, etc, and then when I closed the AI Studio window and returned, the session was rolled back to several hours earlier.
This is NOT GOOD. Very frustrating.

Awful bug, making AI studio unusable for some instances. Same behavior as everyone else. Android 14, pixel 8 pro, ai studio via chrome. I really wish AI studio had its own app like Gemini. Many people do. We want access to the best models in a nice dedicated app, instead of a janky, laggy, forgetful web app. Also, Please give option for TTS in AI studio on android. Gemini (Assistant) Was reading the current response from gemini 06-05 ai studio preview until a few days ago. Please and thank you!

This is absolutely terrible Google. It āModified by moderatorā is exacerbated by the fact that Google boasts Geminiās 1M token context window, lulling us into thinking we can have ongoing long-form conversations, just to come back the next day to find it all gone. I really want to support Gemini and recommend it to my colleagues in the industry, but this type of widespread data loss experienced by so many people is just unacceptable. Google ā please do something about it, or as many have said, AI Studio is effectively useless. Thereās no benefit in the superior intelligence or context window if it can vanish at any moment, even with Autosave enabled. Please prioritize this bug. It would seem that if this isnāt fix, nothing else quite matters as no trust can be placed in AI Studio overall.
ESCALATE AND FIX THIS BUG. SAVE AI STUDIOāS REPUTATION. RESPECT YOUR USERS.
This behavior is still in the AI Studio and it still sucks. Be a bit more user ;]

Just happened to me after 6+ hours of super streamlined highly techincal and context driven work. Over 150k tokens lost and the chat reset to my VERY FIRST MESSAGE. This is a seriously painful failure. How is it that we cant trust Google, the Trillion dollar giant, to simply SAVE OUR WORK. This is with autosave and google drive!!! Disgusting. Please escelate and make this fix top prio, the most technical users are the only ones effected like this its tragic.
Agreed I was working on a system prompt for a specialized ai for work and aq closed ai studio and i lost all of it
I just lost my 4 days of work. The prompt I was working on disappeared as if it was never there. This shouldnāt be that complex bug to fix for Google. It is here for 6 months now.
