Error: "User location is not supported for the API use"

Dear Google,

It’s been more than 24h since you stated randomly dropping out some Generative AI API requests coming from Hetzner’s datacenter in Germany, now all the traffic is being blocked.

I’ve changed the DNS to the Google 8.8.8.8, then to 2001:4860:4860::8888, enforced to first resolve the IPv6 - nothing. The same code, with the same API key works just fine, locally from Poland, yet the same stuff, that was running just fine since September 2024, can’t successfully handle even a single request, everything is rejected with “User location is not supported for the API use” error.

I’m just doing REST API calls to https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/models/gemini-2.0-flash-001:generateContent

I’d say that you probably banned my IP, for god’s know what reason, but there are a lot more of people reporting the same issues.

I can’t even file you a ticket, because it seems like I need to pay extra to report a problem with a service I’m already paying for.

I’ve temporarily “solved” the problem by proxying all the API calls through Smartproxy’s datacenter proxies in Germany.

But I really don’t want to be forced to act like some sort of bad guy, trying to hide my real IP etc.
