Custom Gem on Gemini 2.5 Pro fails with generic "An error has occurred" message

Brief Description

One of my specific custom Gems, named “[Điền tên Gem của bạn vào đây]”, has suddenly stopped working and consistently returns a generic error message. This issue appears to be completely isolated to this single Gem, as all of my other custom Gems are functioning perfectly.

Environment & Version

  • Affected Model: Gemini 2.5 Pro
  • Platform: Gemini Advanced (Web Interface)
  • Feature: Custom Gems
  • Browser: [Điền tên trình duyệt và phiên bản của bạn, ví dụ: Chrome Version 128.0.6613.84]

Steps to Reproduce (Most Important)

  1. Navigate to the specific custom Gem named “[Điền tên Gem của bạn vào đây]”.
  2. Enter a prompt that has previously worked, for example: “[Dán một ví dụ câu lệnh bạn đã dùng]”.
  3. Press the “Send” button.
  4. The model attempts to process the request and fails.

Expected Result

The Gem should process the prompt according to its custom instructions and return a relevant answer, just like my other Gems.

Actual Result

After a few seconds of processing, the interface displays a generic error message: “Đã xảy ra lỗi” (An error has occurred). No specific error code is provided.

Additional Information

  • This issue started occurring around [Ghi lại thời gian bạn bắt đầu gặp lỗi, ví dụ: 8:00 PM (GMT+7) on August 22, 2025].
  • Crucially, I have tested my other custom Gems and they all continue to work without any issues. This confirms the problem is isolated to the aforementioned Gem.
  • I have already tried troubleshooting by clearing the browser cache, using Incognito Mode, and testing on a different network, all without success.

The issue seems to be tied to the specific configuration or instructions within this particular Gem. Any insights into what might cause a single Gem to fail would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi @Tuankietphanvu,

Welcome to the Forum,

Regarding this Custom Gem issue, kindly submit your feedback by navigating to the Gemini App, selecting “Settings & Help,” and then choosing “Send Feedback.”

Thank you!

I’ve been getting the same model error over and over. I tried the steps you suggested, but it still hasn’t fixed it.

I had same issue since 19th of August. Gem-bot returns “Something went wrong”.
Using gemini without the gembot I can only upload files in the beginning of the conversation.

Today I acutally got a response on a new thread, then typing back it did not work again “Something went wrong”.

Nothing hidden in the activity log, not working on other browsers nor on the app either.

I have just cancelled my subscription. Rather have no cross memory than counting on it and then loosing it all.

I have the same issue. Manually upload files into the gem, it works. Then I shared the gem and now it always errors out after “Analysing”.
