Hello Google AI Developers team,
I am developing RizzFlow, an 18+ consumer mobile application that helps adults communicate on dating platforms. The app uses the Gemini Developer API through a backend service.
The application’s intended functions are:
-
Extracting text and context from user-submitted dating-chat screenshots.
-
Suggesting witty, casual, or non-explicit flirty replies.
-
Providing conversation insights, such as possible interest signals and communication suggestions.
The app has an age gate, sends requests through a backend, avoids logging screenshot contents, and is designed to avoid retaining raw screenshots permanently.
After reviewing the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service effective March 23, 2026, I am concerned about the restriction that the services are for developers building with Google AI models for “professional or business purposes, not for consumer use.”
Could the Google team please clarify the following?
-
Is a commercial, consumer-facing mobile app like RizzFlow an eligible API client under these terms, where the developer operates the API integration as a business but the end users are individual consumers?
-
Does enabling an active Google Cloud Billing account and using the Gemini API Paid Services tier change this eligibility, or does the consumer-use restriction still apply?
-
Is processing user-submitted dating-chat screenshots—including messages written by another person who is not a RizzFlow user—permitted, provided the app minimizes personal data, informs users about external AI processing, and implements appropriate privacy safeguards?
-
Are non-explicit dating advice, conversation analysis, witty replies, and mild romantic/flirty suggestions permitted use cases? What boundary should the app enforce for sexually explicit requests?
-
If this use case is not eligible on the Gemini Developer API, is Google Cloud Vertex AI an appropriate supported route for a consumer-facing application of this type, subject to its applicable terms?
We will not treat billing activation as proof of policy approval. We would appreciate links to the governing terms or written guidance identifying the appropriate supported API and any conditions we must meet before launch.
Thank you.
