Clarification on Gemini API free-tier quota reduction and paid-tier stability

We are using the Gemini API on the free tier and have noticed that the number of allowed requests has dropped significantly compared to previous behavior.

Can Google confirm whether the reduced free-tier limits are a permanent policy change, and whether there are any plans to restore the previous request levels?

Additionally, is there any official documentation or announcement that outlines these recent quota or rate-limit changes?

We are also planning to upgrade to the paid tier and would like to confirm:

  • Whether paid-tier users are fully stable
  • Whether paid-tier usage is governed strictly by published quotas
  • Whether preview models are subject to additional throttling

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Dharshini_R, welcome to the community!

Please refer to Rate limits; any changes and information regarding rates will be updated here regularly!

Yes, preview models are subject to additional throttling and more restrictive rate limits when compared to stable versions (Preview models), so please consider using stable versions.

Thank you!

Lately, several reports (in this forum) 429s even on paid tiers. ABSOLUTE ZERO Google clarification
