Bug/design oversight for Web Interface regarding $ and LaTeX

Whenever a model in Google AI Studio outputs text with multiple dollar signs—for example, talking about “a cash total of $1,350 made up of $1,100 in $20s, $50s, and $100s”—the frontend markdown parser mistakes the dollar signs for inline LaTeX math.

Because it pairs up the $ signs as if they’re a formula, it strips out all the spaces between them and squishes the entire sentence into mashed-together italicized math text which often times can actually breach the chat container in a single long string.

Right now the only workarounds are toggling on Raw mode (which loses all formatting) or prompting with system instructions telling the model to manually escape every dollar sign with a backslash (\$), which really shouldn’t be necessary for everyday English output and burns additional tokens.

Maybe try to update the markdown parser with basic currency detection so it ignores $ when followed immediately by numbers (like $\d+)? Or perhaps stop using single $ as an inline math trigger and switch to standard \( and \), or only render math inside $$ blocks. Even add a simple toggle in the UI settings to disable math rendering completely without having to switch entirely to raw unformatted text.
