Are Gemini 2.5 Pro and 2.5 Flash now paid models in Google AI Studio?

Hello, Google! I noticed that you have made access to Gemini 2.5 Pro and 2.5 Flash paid. If this is done intentionally, can you explain for what purpose?

The 2.5 Pro was going to be discontinued in June anyway. Why do this during its final days of availability?

I also remember that support for Gemini 2.5 Pro was supposed to end in June 2026. But now the date of closing access to this model has been shifted to October 16, 2026.

I’ll keep my topic alive just in case. If the Google AI Studio team suddenly comes here and reads it, I’m still interested in the reason for this decision regarding the Gemini 2.0 and 2.5 model families.

I really hate this.

Logan Kirkpatrick should change his mind and reverse it.

Maybe they know that the 2.5 Pro is the model that’s actually valuable, so they’re trying to make more money off it before it’s discontinued.

For clarity:

  • 2.5 Flash and Pro are still available on the free tier in the API
  • They’ve been removed from the free tier in AI Studio

The change was made to save compute for other models.
