AI Studio UI Bug: Audio accent selection fails to persist and reverts to default "en-GB"

  1. Summary: In the Google AI Studio web interface under the audio/speech generation settings, attempting to select the “British RP” accent fails to save. The interface automatically forces or resets the selection back to the default en-GB.
  2. Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Open Google AI Studio and navigate to the audio/speech generation section.

    2. Locate the accent/locale selector dropdown.

    3. Select British RP.

    4. Observe the field value and trigger an audio generation request.

  3. Expected Result: The selection persists as British RP, and the synthesized output reflects the chosen Received Pronunciation accent.
  4. Actual Result: The dropdown immediately reverts or defaults back to en-GB, preventing the selection of the intended accent.
  5. Attachments: Screen recording demonstrating the UI state reset: [ Drive Video link here]

Hello @Biplob_Ahmed,

The Style, Pace, and Accent dropdown controls in the Speech Playground are active and pass the selected values in the generation request. If a starter template or existing session retains previous speaker settings, reset the configuration in the Run settings panel using Reset default settings, or start a clean session from Create new dialog.

We also recommend trying the latest Gemini text-to-speech models in the Speech Playground or via the API — Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS (gemini-3.8-flash-tts) and Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite TTS (gemini-3.8-flash-lite-tts), which replaces gemini-3.1-flash-tts-preview (see the Speech Generation documentation).

Please retry and let us know if the issue persists.

Thank you so much for resolving the issue. I really appreciate your help.

However, I would kindly request that you try to resolve such issues a little more quickly in the future, as I use this service for professional work. When there are significant delays, it affects my work and can cause me losses because I’m unable to complete my tasks on time.

I hope that going forward, any issues I face can be resolved within a reasonable timeframe. Thank you again for your support and understanding.

Hit the exact same bug last week — the accent dropdown kept snapping back to en-GB no matter what I picked. What worked for me was Pooja’s suggestion: reset the Run settings to default first, then pick the accent again before touching anything else. It really feels like leftover state from an older session is overriding the picker. Starting a brand-new dialog session fixed it permanently on my end, so if the reset doesn’t stick, give that a try.
