Which database to choose?

Hello,

I’ve created a few nice apps with data stored in the DOM. I’d like to built something now with a true database backend. Which db is best suited for work with Studio? And how does one integrate the database in the app? Does Gemini also take care of setting up ofthe necessary datastructures in the db, or not?

Thanks for your thoughts, support.

Hi Appifier.

I don’t know about Studio, but without knowing something your use case, but to try and give a overall view of options …

If you want to work with records and fields and want to join tables, you want an SQL database. So some examples are SQLite (simplist file based database), MySql, Postgre, Oracle and MS SQL Server.

If you want just to store things (you want to save the DOM’s as objects say) , then one of the myraid NoSQL databases might suffice.

There are specialist databases like ElasticSerach for full text and ranking search.

If in doubt, I’d go for an SQL store, even though it’s considered more complicated (in the sense you have to learn a bit of SQL).

To start with I’d go for a quick SQLite setup, check you can install the relevant programming library, run a couple of commands (CREATE TABLE, SELECT and DROP TABLE) … see if it works lol  Then look at the other options as your need increase. Because they use a “standard” language if you choose a different provider then the SQL statements stay mostly the same and you can just refactor the API calls (which tend to be simular).

I can’t answer so much on Studio as mentioned, however producing “boiler-plate” code for mirroring classes is a breeze now with AI code generation in most languages.

Let your agents do the work for you, set up a “architecture lead” and “coding lead” to guide you through the options more properly.
