Google provides two platforms where you can access the Gemini API:

  • Google Cloud Vertex AI
  • AI Studio (which is sometimes called “Google Generative AI”)

Each library only works with one of these platforms.

The two libraries are pretty similar, providing very similar interfaces to the Gemini API. Where they differ mostly focus on the differences between the two platforms (for example, AI Studio has the File API, while the Vertex AI platform doesn’t support that and, instead, uses Google Cloud Storage for a similar operation).
