Hello everyone, this is the solution to get Gemini or Google AI Studio to work when you are facing the “Quota exceeded. Please try again later.” error:
Note how AI Studio (even on the “Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview") shows "Gemini 3 Flash Preview”. Pay no attention to that.
Go to your “Rate Limits” and see what is at capacity. In this case, yes, Gemini 3.1 Pro is the culprit:
So just go back to your project, choose another model in the “chat” settings inside the right-side panel that pops up when you click the gear icon on the top-right of the screen inside any project. Choose any of the models that don’t appear capped in your Rate Limits. Recommended: go back to Gemini 3 Flash Preview if you were using Gemini 3.1 Pro. (it worked for me, and it should work for you too).
No need to save anything, just select and then close the side panel, and refresh. Then just ask Gemini if it’s blockage is gone and it’ll just pretent nothing happened, it’ll continue working as usual.
I hope this helps everyone facing a similar situation as I now have full control over this problem and it no longer affects me. I’m not pulling my hair out of frustration from trying to get Gemini to do things it’s not programmed to such as exceeding its caps. Thanks!
