AI Studio’s system instructions work… Sometimes. Barely.
Most of the time, the model ignores them, unless explicitly told to “follow system instructions”.
Furthermore, apparently, they live locally. If accessing AI Studio from a different platform, like mobile, the system instructions are gone. When returning to the same device, they return.
HI @Stoltverd
Could you share what model you are using which is ignoring the system instructions ?
Sure I can! It is 3.1 pro preview
I have faced the same issue with Flash and 3.1 Pro as well.
First of all, sorry for my sloppy english but I think this post might help.
Here is the solution i found and it works completely well:
The problem is whenever you directly open the chrome tab or refresh the existing one - the frontend treats the system instructions block as “unloaded” frame/sidebar.
To fix this, you have to load “System Instructions” block manually.
Steps to follow:
- Refresh the chrome tab whenever you open the preloaded studio AI tab in chrome.
- Once the chat is loaded properly, DO NOT send any input to AI yet.
- Open the side bar and open the system instructions block, let the instructions load properly, verify that you have loaded correct instructions.
- Use the UI navigation to close the System Instructions block and go back to the chat.
- Check the token counts on the top left of the window. If the system instructions block is successfully loaded, it will re-calculate and add those tokens into count.
I have done this so many times and it worked for me, let me know if it works for you as well.
