Solving problems using Gemini AI

I gave Gemini a mathematical problem, which I already knew the answer, and it gave me the wrong answer. I corrected it but still gave me the wrong answer some hours later. I think we should look at how to solve that problem. It should understand and save corrections.

Hi @Obed_kirui,

Welcome to the forum!! Could you provide the question if possible.

Welcome to the forums!

A couple of points:

  • Gemini is a Large Language Model - not a mathematical model. It deals with language patterns. And while math problems can sometimes be expressed as language patterns - you should remember that Gemini is not a source of truth. (Nor are other language models.)
  • Gemini is stateless. Unless you take specific action, Gemini does not “remember” what happens from one request to the next. Under some circumstances (if you’re using the free tier or AI Studio), Google does collect your prompts and may use them for future training, it won’t re-train models from moment to moment.

That said, it is a common technique for you to add additional patterns by including them in the prompt. So if you see that it addresses a particular mathematical problem pattern poorly, you can provide example questions and answers as part of the prompt and expect to get better results on similar questions (without answers) that are included as part of that session.
