Anyone else suffering from this? Been three days now, rate-limited to one to three prompts, then capped out.
My guess is that the rate limits are temporary until they finish rolling it out around May 2 I believe? I think I read someone else in this forum mention a cap of ~50 messages per day while it’s still free.
Don’t forget there will still be a free tier after May 2. We’re probably seeing them implementing the rate limits for that now and that is about 2 requests per minute for Gemini 1.5 Pro. But after a minute or so, it should be available again till you hit the daily limit.
See the free tier for 1.0 and 1.5 at Gemini API Pricing | Google for Developers
Your issue may be that you are running prompts in quick succession. You can only send two prompts every minute, so you will receive an error after trying to send your third prompt. You can fix this by waiting a few seconds and then trying again.
Your issue could also be that their rate-limit for free users is dynamic depending on the time of day. So using it during prime times of the day could lead to a rate-limit error, but I do not know if they dynamically adjust rate-limits.
Gemini 1.5 pro has a rate-limit of 2/minute and 1000/day.
Two requests is not a great number but what more we can expect for free. what about those who want to pay? How much for them? As Starting from May 2nd, it’s pay-as-you-go.
The rate limits for the pay-as-you-go tier are also on the pricing page. See Rate-Limited every day after 1-3 uses - #3 by afirstenberg
5 RPM
This reminds me of azures requests limits. This not really impressive.
Not particularly, but if you show a demonstrated need/use for more, I’m sure Google is happy to accept your money and increase the limits.
This is pretty standard on the Google Cloud side - as you show you’re using it, they’ll increase it. They just don’t want to over-allocate resources that aren’t getting used or get slammed by someone who tries to abuse the system.
Can you please explain what the pay as you go will cost. Sounds like it could add up fast. What do you think the difference between the paid version and the unpaid. Also is there a way to copy and paste from your chat? I know you can select and drag and all of that but Claud has a simple button.
Pay-as-you-go is a pricing model that allows users to access their AI models and services without committing to a monthly subscription or prepaid credits. Instead, users are charged only for the resources used.
The differences between the capabilities of the free tier and the pay-as-you go tier, as well as the pricing, are available at Gemini API Pricing | Google for Developers
Yes, it can certainly add up if you’re using Gemini 1.5 for everything. But it probably pretty accurately reflects the actual costs to run the model, and it is somewhat comparable to the costs of other models.
These limits are for free tier?
@ramphy yes, the rate limits on the page you’re referencing are for the free tier at present.
Take a look at this page for free vs paid limits which will take effect once billing goes live on May 14.
thank you for you reply! <3
Hello, it is not clear to me if the “no cost” option will also be to use the Gemini API with its limits or only from Google AI Studio.
The “no cost” option will still have access to the API and will be subject to the rate limits.
