There is an “API” for this. It’s called “Program Vertex AI + RAG yourself.” Then you get an API and also pay a lot more from what I’ve heard, so I suspect there is no motivation on the Google side to make a NotebookLM API.

By the way, I tried to set up Vertex AI + RAG. It was/is a nightmare. I ran into backend errors (I know it’s not my code, I’m getting really strange errors back from the server and my document library is there in that the file names are present, but the size of each file, and the size of the database index, is 0 bytes) and even tried to pay for support - so far, no response. Google has never been one for customer service, but when I pay $32.99 to get help, I expect to get help… I may end up moving to another solution if they don’t fix this soon.
