Naming conventions of Gemini models - DD-MM or MM-DD?

A bit of feedback to anyone from Google listening, as a majority of the world does not use MM-DD-YYYY format, can you PLEASE stick to DD-MM or even YYYY-MM-DD format for naming models.

This message this morning is SO confusing to ensure you choose the latest/correct model:

" Hello Drew,

We’re writing to inform you that Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview 05-06 for Gemini APIs will be discontinued on June 19, 2025.

We have recently launched an updated preview version, Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview 06-05, which we plan to make generally available (GA) in a few weeks. This new model offers significant improvements, and we strongly recommend transitioning to it."

I get the request, I mean I hate the MM-DD format too, but this is a non-issue. It takes all of 30 seconds to find out if you’re unsure. And if you work with the models daily, like most here do, you know the format and indeed the exact model they are talking about immediately.

I disagree this is a non-issue, I have seen with my eyes people struggle in AI Studio to pick the right one (especially when they push a new version).

I’m glad you’re so flawless, but this isn’t a message for you.

AI Studio literally tells them which the New models are!
