There should be a setting to control how many variants are created as it appears that each variant counts against the monthly total.
In fact why do the different variants count against the monthly total.
The monthly total should be based on the identified finished product that the user identifies and downloads.

To address your points: we already have controls in place that let you manage the number of variations generated for your screens, as well as other options for making custom changes.
On the subject of the monthly quota, because each variation is essentially a separate, full screen generation, they are included in your total monthly counts.
