I recently received an email (referencing the discontinuation of gemini-3.1-flash-lite-preview on May 25, 2026) and I want to clarify how this affects my current production apps.
My two main projects are currently using API keys configured for Gemini 2.5 Flash (gemini-2.5-flash).
- Will my 2.5 Flash API calls continue to function after May 25th?
- Is there a mandatory migration path for 2.5 Flash users to the 3.1 series?
- If I decide to switch to the new GA model mentioned in the email, can I simply swap the model string to gemini-3.1-flash-lite without changing my underlying prompt logic?
I want to ensure my apps remain stable as these preview models are retired. Any guidance on the lifecycle overlap between the 2.5 and 3.1 series would be appreciated.
