This morning, Google’s Search AI produced one of the most absurd, identity‑broken failures I’ve ever seen.
I started a test chat in AI‑mode.
Google Search responded normally and even said:
“This conversation will be saved in your history.”
Fine. And yes — the Google Activity log confirmed it: AI‑mode, timestamp, the Search response, everything.
Then the nightmare started.
Google’s Search AI suddenly said:
“I am an OpenAI‑developed language model (ChatGPT).”
And then it EMBEDDED the OpenAI Help Center page directly into its own answer.
Not as a link — as part of the same response bubble.
Google Activity saved the whole thing as a single AI response.
This was not a misunderstanding.
Not a ChatGPT window.
Not a different site.
This was Google Search AI, in AI‑mode, inside Google’s own interface.
Google’s AI literally:
– ran in AI‑mode
– saved the chat
– restored a “deleted” conversation
– then had a full identity‑crisis
– claimed to be ChatGPT
– quoted OpenAI’s help page
– embedded an OpenAI link inside its own answer
This isn’t a bug.
This isn’t a UI glitch.
This is a full‑blown identity meltdown.
At this point, if it claims to be the Pope next time, I won’t even be surprised.
