So gemma 4 released really recently and with less then a month Gemma 3 will be discontinued? Gemma 4 is incredible I agree but the response time on Generative API is way more slower then the 3 family, I have finally found a balance for my chat app where the new 4 family would take care of the heavy work and the 3 family would
Help the user experience feels smoother, and just suddenly we got an email saying “so you’re losing 5 family options and will stick to only 2” at least they should’ve kept 12b and 27b running, they are still very good and fast, that’s really frustrating…
Have you figured out any way to still use Gemma3 by using Generative API?
Gemma 4 takes like 10x the time Gemma 3 used to.
There are other ways to use Gemma 3 I think like running on your local machine.
Yeah, I can run it locally; but the thing is that I used Gemma for my mobile app, so using the API was a requirement because downloading the model locally on the device would take as long as Gemma 4 and would drain the battery. I have already migrated the core features to Gemma 4, but some other pieces that would need smaller models (like 27B or 12B) just don’t work anymore because the API won’t even retrieve these models anymore, so these small features that enhanced the experience are effectively deactivated now. 
I’m trying to find other providers that run Gemma models for free to keep everything working 100%
