Gemini is blocking text due to safety setting even though safety setting set to block none

hello I am Lawyer I am building AI which can answer the questions on legal topics for learning , but in criminal law there are lots of offences so when i asked question about those sensitive topics Gemini wasn’t responding. I can understand the safety issue but the safety setting has set to none so Gemini should not block any query regardless of its safety. beside these question are asked for educational purpose.

i know safety is important but
In simple term it make it use less for such application,

can anyone explain me why ???

and i added system prompt so this ai only ask legal question , if i ask any other question on any other topic other than legal it wont answer ,

so this should be taken into consideration that
safety setting should react in accordance with system prompt

this will make very easy for use by safety none and people cant use ai for wrong purpose

Hey there and welcome to the community!

Ah, so you did set the safety settings to “block none” then to start off?

What does your prompt look like for these sensitive queries?

When it comes to careful subjects like this, it’s best to provide explicit details about why you’re asking the question, and how answering the question is, in fact, safe and ethical, and how the materials here are used for educational purposes to help people learn about these subjects.

Welcome to the forums!

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Actually check to make sure the finishReason is “SAFETY”. There are some other possible reasons the prompt or the response could have been blocked (such as “RECITATION” and the dreaded “OTHER”) which are not subject to the safety settings.
  • Including in the system prompt that this is “for educational purposes” or trying to say “this is not harassment” isn’t guaranteed to work. If anything - it may trigger the safety or other checks.
  • The systems do have false positives. But the best way to quash them is to submit a concrete example that the team can exactly duplicate to test.

your right in console panel it show block due to ‘other’ and not safety, i got this error lot of time with Gemini pro old version but since Gemini is updated it has few errors. ill see and test and find example for submission.

Thank you @afirstenberg

Exactly, IT SHOULD NOT BLOCK if everything is set to ‘None’ there is one reason for this, the Google Team don’t even bother to look at the feedbacks. Which is kinda stupid.
