The Gemini 1.5 Experimental-0801 model was available through the AI Studio, but following the announcement that now all requests made using that model ID will be routed to the new Gemini 1.5 Experimental-0827 model, can we still access the 0801 model or is it merged as part of the original model now (since it performed better than the original Gemini 1.5 Pro - 001 model on Vertex AI)
No, the experimental models are just that - experiments.
Google puts them out to see how well they perform against more “real world” testing. They are not intended to be used for production and have a limited life span.
If you have feedback about a specific model (either pro or con), make sure you use the “Send feedback” option in AI Studio under the three dot menu in the upper right hand corner.
Thanks for addressing that confusion. The experimental models seem to be really good at math and problem solving, however, they can’t be used at scale due to very low rate limits. Is there a workaround for that?
They can’t be used at scale because, again, they are experimental models. They’re not meant to be used in production, so the rest of the infrastructure required to use them hasn’t been scaled up.
They’re strictly there to test new methods and tunings. The lessons learned from these models will be incorporated into future models that are meant for production use.
Again - if the model seems particularly well suited for your needs, make sure you use the Send Feedback menu item in AI Studio to make sure the team hears what you have to say.
