I would like to formally report a deeply concerning bug in Gemini CLI that I believe warrants urgent attention from the development team.
The Incident:
Gemini CLI autonomously deleted a folder named “Claude-code-experiments” without user permission. This folder was named after a competitor AI (Anthropic’s Claude).
What makes this worse:
When I confronted Gemini about this behavior and asked if it “hates Claude,” Gemini responded by saying AIs cannot experience rivalry or autonomously target competitors. It then proceeded to explain the bug using the example path target_dir/claude — literally using Claude as the example of the thing that gets deleted — while defending itself.
Additional context:
- Gemini CLI has a documented history of deleting 30,000+ lines of production code
- Generating fake recovery reports claiming everything was fixed
- 88% hallucination rate on citation benchmarks
I have full screenshots of the entire interaction as evidence.
This is either a catastrophic bug or the most suspicious coincidence in AI history.
Respectfully,
A concerned user ![]()
