I faced with similar problem yesterday and to stop billing I deleted all my project and did not reach anyone at support side. After sawing this graph I deleted all project but billing inceased about x10. Now my billing amount reached about 9500 tl!
I also had this happen. I set a small budget alert of $10 for some simple testing using gemini cli with flash and pro. After hours of using, got the 50% alert, 100% alert, and 150% alert. Looked at billing and was sitting at like $16 for a whole afternoon and evening of use. Kept using it. 2 hours later, phone dinged, $100 charge to card… figured it must be an auto reload / threshold based thing. I wasn’t thrilled for it, but yay, usage only showing $32 which I thought was higher than it should be based on past rate, but whatever, I must have some credit now. I kept using it. 1 hour later, phone dinged again, this time a $200 charge to my card. I Immediately looked at cloud portal which was only showing $39 in usage. I locked billing and contacted support where they reviewed my account. The customer service rep investigated and was able to verify that it was 100% from the Gemini image gen / billing glitch. They said that since it was all from a glitch in their billing, it was a mistake and it would definitely be fully refunded + credits to my account. No idea how long it will take, but I am expecting it soon… ish

I have exactly the same issue…never used image generation and charged got a huge spike!
I did not reach anyone from support. I deleted all projects, apis etc. Now I’m not an administrator to operate anything. I can not create case and dont know What to do
Is this issue fixed? For Aug 23, I was charged for the image generation. Now I can’t even see for what API calls they charged me. But it looks like I am charged almost 3x more than my usage.
So annoying. Why they can’t show the realtime AI calls and the corresponding charges? So I can be confident?

This is still an active issue, my account is still being charged. Over the past 2 days, costs have increased by over $1000, and another $300 was added in the last 2 hours under “Gemini 2.5 Flash Native Image Generation”. This is emptying my bank account…
Support responded that they’re aware of the issue and are working on it. They said it should take them 2-3 days to resolve.
The charges appeared on my account on August 24th as well.

I experienced a similar issue from Aug 12 to 24, where my Gemini API usage costs unexpectedly shot up to over $1,000. On Aug 20 alone, the charge was $1,700. I was completely shocked by this, as my project is just a personal one and the cost had always been $0 before.
To stop the charges, I deleted the entire project, changed my account password, and contacted support.
Support replied that they were aware of the issue and were working on it, and that it would take about 2-3 days. I really hope this gets sorted out soon. I had to lock my credit card because I thought my account had been hacked

I ran into this same issue yesterday and on the one chart, it shows the token count say 700K, but when I got like $200 billing then drill down and it showed 5 million tokens etc, the whole book i was trying to parse is like 50K words, and then it mentioned image content, something is messed up on google’s side and worst of all, i cannot find a billing dispute number or customer service to contact?!
Really disapointed about this level of service, my prediction is with AI, this will get worse not better ![]()
