For some reason Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview stops thinking from time to time. In the beginning of the chat usually there is no problem, but as the chat progresses (5-6 prompts later) Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview which is a thinking model by default just refuses to think before it answers. The place where the chain of thought should be is fully empty.
Important: This seems to be a UI-only problem which gets resolved after refreshing the saved prompt. After a refresh the chain of thought is shown like it should be.

It’s not a UI bug. It’s the model choosing not to think. It was present in the 03-25 model but far worse in the new 05-06 checkpoint. At the end of your most recent user message, add “Don’t forget to start with your thinking stage.”

Is this what you mean? Is it a UI/display problem, or are you saying that when you regenerate, the COT shows up?

You’re right! It seems to be beyond just a UI bug. I have had prompts where this space for thinking doesn’t even show up at all! That’s absurd! Google should let us choose whether the model will think or not instead of it deciding alone. “Modified by moderator”
