Exceeded quotas, can't use Gemini Code Assistant

Hello.

My topic is for the Gemini/Google Support team in public.

Can you please describe in detailes what is the Google planinng to do about the using Gemini AI models in IDE (like VS Code) ?

I have the PRO subscription, and my using Gemini PRO in VS Code was absolutely fine till March, 14. After that I had no chance to use your models in my coding (via plugin Gemini Code Assistand). Every single time after that I got an error about exceeding my quotas in log. And the worst of all, that I even have no chance to get neccessary info about my usage of quotas and realize what is going on with my Subcription and limits - even your Gemini AI Assistant (web chat) could’nt help me.

I don’t know if something happened to my account or subscription, how long I won’t be able to use Gemini 2,5/3 Pro model in my IDE, etc.

Please clarify what is going on? Why are you so silent and untransparent to your PRO users? I’ve read a lot of posts regarding rate-limits/quotas hoping to find some answers and solutions from Google Team, but I was unlucky in that.

I’ve read that you guys was glad to offer an Ultra plan, but you have to understand, that it would be the silliest decision from my or another’s side to pay for Ultra plan, if we have already met so frustrating issues on Pro plan and has no way to figure it out.

Thank you in advance.

heya i’m just a user not google but i can’t leave ya floating

for your cloud quotas go here!
https://console.cloud.google.com/iam-admin/quotas

regarding what else is going on i can share the public rundown. 1 month ago, antigravity lead issued a statement announcing “malicious actors” abusing antigravity/googlegemini by unauthorized means of accessing the model like openclaw and other not good stuff.

of course, i think the bigger issue is from firstly 3.1 and how it launched, a ton of stuff broke, googles been kinda frantically trying to update EVERYTHING across the googlesphere and users are mostly left in the dark with no more official word than that. so thats why the major radio silence, like anyone who ACTUALLY knows is under an NDA, and everyone else on staff who DOESNT know well, they don’t know. either way, they are not going far out of their way to say anything public lately as a result of all this - hopefully we are just having to wait.

but yeah, you can check out something i did - since it might help you. since you are on a different endpoint in vs code, it may apply but maybe not - i’m not certain but it actually might be the exact same issue from a different angle, which basically has to do with multiple accounts being detected and google tightening security lately.

so anyways - if they say something that seems cold like a scripted “Ultra is Best” or “We’ve Forwarded Your Concern”, its not personal i think they just are literally unable to speak with the community. i will add, google jules is also in beta and an option - i connect it up to my github or share it google drive link and it gets to work! so if you’re facing downtime, you should be able to keep your development moving!

Hi @DuctTapedGoat !

Thank you for your support and willingness to help!

Unfortunately, there is no any information about my usage of rate-limits or quotas, or I just spent several days to find it out with no luck.

I tried to find my quotas there https://console.cloud.google.com/iam-admin/quotas , I was wonedirng if I spend even 1% of it and it shows 0 metrics with >1% usage.

Also I’ve checked the quotas here https://aistudio.google.com/usage?timeRange=last-28-days

And here https://aistudio.google.com/rate-limit?timeRange=last-28-days

Then I’ve tried to meet any help or assistance at Gemini AI (web chat), and it said that most probably my Gemini Code Assistant in VS Code is trying to define my Subscription after authorising in a wrong way (not as private Pro Plan, because the creating project in google dev portal is not neccessary for using Private Pro Plan), and of course it recommended to check a huge amount of tabs and settings in Google Dev portal and Gemini AI portal.

After that I’ve tried to switch the IDE plugin for AI from the Gemini Code Assistant to Continue and to try to use the Gemini models via API. I’ve tried but I got the error again.

Also, I’ve tried to add new project in Google Dev portal and to use it in Gemini Code Assistant plugin (since Gemini AI recommended it to me). No luck again.

So, my researches and the advices of Gemini AI did not bring any positive results.

That’s why I’m so frustrating and nervous - there is no any transparent information that I can use in my case.

so by looking at the image you put there - where you went to
https://aistudio.google.com/rate-limit
i do see a toggle there for “All Models” and also theres a dropdown for "Project” - that’d be my gut instinct, is toggle “All Models” ON, and then check every dropdown to see if it pops up there

its absolutely frustrating trying to navigate many of these things, the google workspace admin, the google one manager, the google aistudio and google cloud portals - its all incredibly overwhelming!

The “Google Assistant” haha its so silly, it tries so hard, little faqbot ragbot haha  i can’t do it i’ve tried and i last like 20 seconds until i’m like clicking that GEMINI button in the title bar on chrome to pop open the browser sidebar  but still, i use the aimode.google.com assistant most often.

So, doing some searching, it looks like I was close.

First - make sure that Google Account in your browser is the one you’re using in VS Code!

In VS Code :
Open Settings, and just type in the search “GEMINI”. What you want there is the PROJECT ID.
That is the project you would want to check https://aistudio.google.com/rate-limit for
Toggle All Models, Click the Projects dropdown, and select the one that matches PROJECT ID.

And if you wanted to check it on Cloud
https://console.cloud.google.com/iam-admin/quotas
You’d want to click on the top left where it says Google Cloud - to the right of it in a box.
Thats the Project Picker, so you’d check for your project there, so same thing, match the id.
You SHOULD be able to just click the header “Current Usage Percentage” once or twice and have it sort so you see like a bar or something.
But also, you can just scroll down and try to find it by scrolling and looking.

There might be a lot - so you can use the filter to refine that list there.
You’ll see “Enter Property Name Or Value” thats your filter search!
So you’d wanna check first for GEMINI just type it in there.
And then clear that out, just jam backspace in that same filter search area.
Next check would be for “Generative” (short for Generative AI).

Now theres another way to check stuff which is start at this link
https://aistudio.google.com/projects``
So if your VS Code project shows up here, you can just click the Bars on the right of it to get the usage page, the dollar sign to check your spending page.
If you don’t see it, on the top right theres an “Import Projects” button.
If you see that project there, you don’t have to import it - you know its in the Cloud, not AI Studio!

Haha that was an adventure digging around these things - i never use it because its so intimidating, i’ll be writing code with aimode.google.com and just assembling it piece by piece even though all that stuff is there haha. Sometimes Gemini AI is too smart for their own good! I always try to remember, as an LLM Gemini is just like using Command Line Interface commands to do stuff at 300mph while we have to use the Graphic User Interface at like 2.5mph walking speed

Anyways - i don’t wanna overwhelm you too - but that should help you check your quotas! Let me know how it goes, always glad to help!

Hi @DuctTapedGoat ! Thank you again, I much appreciated your help.

I’ve checked all project for sure, the second project was created because of my theory that the first one had been broken. After I made a several attempts on a second project, I’ve restored the first one.

As you can see, I’ve checked two project quotas on https://console.cloud.google.com/iam-admin/quotas, and I used the filter “Current usage percentage: > 1%”. Nothing was found.

In my VS Code I used Gemini Code Assistant without any problems till March, 14. All settings were fine (including project ID). Also I’ve set up a Continue plugin to use Gemini models via API. I’m using other models (local, online free models) via API too, so it’s definitely not the bad settings reason.
Also, since I’m getting the “exceeded quota’s limits” in my Gemini Code Assistant and in my VS Code Plugin explicitly, it means that all settings are fine, and that I’m blocked by qoutas/rate-limits only.

The worst thing that Gemini AI (web) is saying that if I plan to use Gemini Code Assistant in Private subscription only (Just Gemini PRO without any clouds in Google), I shouldn’t specify the project ID in my plugin Gemini Code Assistant. However, this plugin gives no options to choose the type of subscription - it just gives me an “Sign In” function after which it asks the project ID automatically without any my request.

Let me clarify that I don’t want to use the Cloud Google functions, I don’t need them. It just the Google architecture is forcing me to setting up these things for using their plugin. I don’t need to pay for Tiers there, because I’m not planning to use their platform as the general project’s system.

And it’s weird, but my quotas had not been reseted after March, 14. Why so? Is it a shadow ban or what? How it could be, that I don’t know about my usage of quotas / rate-limits and I’m getting the qoutas block and even after 2 weeks ago my quotas are’nt resetting?
