Error "Something went wrong while trying to deserialize a response from the server"

Hi All

I started a new project in Android Studio using the “Gemini API Starter” wizard. I followed the steps explained here:

First the app gave the error that the Gemini 1.0 model was deprecated on 12 July 2024, please upgrade to Gemini 1.5. So I did that, and now get the error, “Something went wrong while trying to deserialize a response from the server”. This occurred over a period of time. I haven’t added any customised information to the app at all, and am just trying to get it to run “out of the box” to get started.

Sure! Here are a few options:

  • Thanks for the heads-up, I’ll check my project for similar issues.
  • I’m also getting this error. Any solutions yet?
  • This is frustrating. Hopefully, a fix is coming soon!

Hi,

I’m having the same error.
My location is not in the list of countries for Gemini use, and so I’m using a VPN to try and prototype the app.
Has anyone run into this issue and successfully found a fix ?
