Document types supported by the Files API

I’m having difficulty finding documentation on this. Whereas the docs clearly spell out image/audio/video support, I can’t seem to find documentation for supported text file types. I definitely see PDF and .txt mentioned, but what else is supported? (And, where is it documented.)

@raymondcamden

Thanks for your feedback. We will escalate the need for documentation on supported text file types.

Thank you - but could you also let me know here what is supported? :slight_smile:

Hi @raymondcamden

I couldn’t find a page with supported mime types, although I remember there being one earlier.

The mime types can be found for various capabilities on their guides, viz Vision, Audio, and Document processing guides

Besides application/pdf, we also offer support for text/md, text/csv, and text/plain formats.

Thank you. I’m curious to try CSV files and see how well Gemini can answer questions about the data.

Hello! The text/md mime type is missing in the docs, and instead it adds text/html. So, there are 4 or 5? Also, shouldn’t it be text/markdown? Thanks!

@Belen_Cebrian

Yes it should be text/markdown.

Please note: the provided list is not exhaustive, as code files such as js, python, css etc… also work.

Oh, okay! Thank you so much!
