Contribution to the open source projects for Beginners

Hello everyone,

I am new to this community. I’ve a very basic knowledge of JAVA and C programming language and I want to contribute to the open source projects and help the community to grow. Can anyone please guide me what are the things I should know/learn before contributing to the open source projects.
