I’m building Gate Forge, a routing layer for LLM API access. Users can
attach their own Gemini API key (BYOK), and we’re evaluating a separate
optional feature where we’d hold our own Gemini API key and let users pay
us a prepaid balance (with a markup over our cost) instead of managing
their own key.
I’ve read through the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service and found a
resale restriction scoped specifically to Grounded Results and Search
Suggestions, but no general restriction on reselling standard completions
access. Before we build on this, I want to confirm: is there a general
policy against a product like the one described above — holding the API
key ourselves and charging end users a markup for metered access — beyond
what’s scoped to Grounded Results?
We’re pre-revenue and want to confirm this is allowed (or find out what
approval process applies) before investing further in it.
