Hi all. I am not an I.T. guru in any way whatsoever. I am someone who enjoys asking questions and understanding things that fascinate me. I enjoy asking ChatGPT some questions and challenging its answers. Before someone wants to attack me, I am aware that this forum is not a ChatGPT-related forum, but I want some insight from the opposing side.
I asked a question to ChatGPT, and then the conversation spiraled into a different direction and topic. The topic was persuasion vs. manipulation and how there is no difference between the two, taking into consideration certain criteria like human emotions and applying that to the subject matter. In short, the outcome was that the use of the words by AI (ChatGPT in this instance) is questionable and should be revised in the context in which it was used in answering questions in general. I then ask if it agrees with my argument. Will the outcome of the conversation affect how it will respond in the future (in other words, did it learn something in the conversation)? Is it going to apply what it learned? The answer came to a NO. It did not come as a surprise; I gathered that much in its responses during the conversation, but I had to ask. In my opinion, the system is manipulative, invasive, and, in many ways, behaves exactly like a 2nd-hand car dealer, and I have to congratulate the creators; they nailed the human factor there.
To the learned and very well-qualified members of this forum, whom I believe some or all are involved in some form of AI development, I put this to you. If the system is limited to certain information, limited by its initial text input, and constrained by boundaries, all are put in place with the intention of protecting and creating accountability for society. Which means it lacks, and those who are less intellectually inclined will stay that way by means of the system’s limitations and lack. Which to me means that every similar system/program out there is no different than the different religions out there that hold half-truths and are used to manipulate the sheep. What is the use, then, of developing it, or is that the intent?
