Is it possible to participate if I’m under 18?
I do have a bank account.
However, I’m unsure if I’ll get disqualified during review due to my age.

Hi Anay @anay-208
I suggest checking the official competition page: 參加 Gemini API 開發人員競賽 | Gemini API Developer Competition | Google for Developers. There you will find the rules.
Tip: You can copy and paste the rules to the Gemini page and request a response.
I did so and received the following response: “As for your age, you just need your parents’ consent.” However, check if your country is qualified to participate in the competition, according to Gemini’s response on 05/29/24, India is not eligible yet.
Anyway, I suggest you go to the official page to get the answer for yourself.
Congratulations on your initiative in learning. Go ahead
Hey @Carlos_Sales,
Thank you for your reply!
Upon Checking the rules, India is eligible.
I also noticed the age should be over the age of majority in Your jurisdiction of residence
.
So with this, Am I eligible to take part with the consent of my parents? can you send a link or any resource which shows that?
Thank you for your response
Regards,
Anay
Hello Anay.
All rules are in oficial page competition.
How this document have 13 pages, so I decided to copy and paste it into Google Gemini and request an answer to this question. The response I received was that there is no explicit information about age restrictions, but warning that this is not an official response.
So I suggest:
1 - Request written authorization from your parents. If you don’t know how to do it: create a model with the help of Google Gemini at: https://gemini.google.com/
2 - Create your application
3 - Get ahead by developing with AI
I’m sorry to say this, but you are unfortunately not able to participate in the competition. The age of majority in India is 18.
As per section 3(1) of the Indian Majority Act 1875 every person domiciled in India shall attain the age of majority on completion of 18 years and not before.

does the competition allows participation under the supervision or consent of a parent or guardian?
Unfortunately not.
Your parents may enter the competition though.
I don’t see anywhere that prohibits a minor from participating and being part of a team. Even if you have a group of adults developing the app, only 1 person can apply and then it’s up to that person how they divide the prize so the other members are irrelevant far as the application is concerned. The person that applies has to be of age and have the rights to the app to apply. So I don’t see why a minor couldn’t be part of it. But the parent would have to apply, not consent, based on the legal language (see below).
(2) be over the age of majority in Your jurisdiction of residence; (3) apply as an individual, not as part of a group
If I were a judge I would disqualify you for this, as it’s basically fraud, submitting an application that you didn’t make for someone else who is not eligible to submit their project is not morally or contractually correct.
According to the official rules, participants must be “over the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence” (Section 4. ELIGIBILITY). In India, the age of majority is 18 years old. Therefore, if you are under 18, you are not eligible to participate in the competition, even with parental consent.
For more information, you can refer to the official rules of the Gemini API Developer Competition on the competition website.
